"Away With the Birds" Installation by Jane Talbot

Let yourself go “Away with the Birds”.  Gulls and gannets sweep and soar, ducks and doves plunge and dive as a huge flock of birds descend on the old city walls. Local artist Jane Talbot creates an installation inspired by the skyscape around the Spanish Arch .       

Taking off on the 13th and flying throughout the festival.

A giant hare...music....poetry....dance..... and some rather bizarre hairstyles!! This fiery, quir ky street performance will have you leaping and dancing. Follow the hare and her mischief makers on their journey through the streets of Galway.

You never know what 's coming around the corner...

Random acts of Macnas Present: "The Dragons Tale"

A lantern dragon arrives into the city and winds its way through the streets of Galway.... Along the way the dragon and his merry troupe end up losing the dragons tail! without the ‘tale’ there is no fire...!!

 

Macnas’s young ensemble have devised a street show that will enthrall and delight young and old.

An exhibition of light, sound and art. A collaboration by St.Patricks Festival Galway, Black Light, Macnas and Andy Smyth. The aim of this project is to high-light the natural beauty of this area and bring it back to life.

 

Enjoy at your leisure the tranquility of the Spanish Arch on a moonlit eve. Inspirede by the atlantic sea and the natural beauty of the area the above artists have collaborated to create a mixed media instalation

St. Patricks Day Parade
 Admission: Free

 

Pipe bands, dance groups, performance artists and community groups come from all over the world to Galway each year to experience a parade that is widely regarded as one of the best in Ireland. The beauty of the Galway Parade is that it is small enough for groups to truly feel a part of, yet big enough to create a special atmosphere. The Parade route is thronged with spectators from start to finish, creating a non-stop carnival atmosphere.

The theme for this years parade is ‘Over the moon’ and is set to see an array of colourful, vibrant and creative entries. Click Here for parade route.

Rith Finale

Rith 2010 – a 1600 km relay-run which will begin in Belfast on 9th March and finish in Galway city as part of the St. Patrick’s Day parade. Thousands will run “ar son na Gaeilge” with the specially designed baton which will hold a secret message from the President of Ireland, Mary McAllese. It will be read out from the reviewing stand in Eyre Square.

The Billy Holliday Show by Dog and String Theatre Company

Billy Holiday star of TV and radio (GBC - Goats Broadcasting Corporation) is the central character in this original show. She's a goat with a purpose.

 
Named after the great jazz singer to whom she aspires, Billy is probably the world’s most famous singing goat. She tries with limited success to bring to the limelight stars from the underrated pool of talent that quietly graze our hillsides. She comes with her own troupe to perform the puppet plays "The Three Billy Goats Gruff" and ‘Dolly and Daisy’s Fantastic Fizzical Theatre’ But beware footballers come and go but a Troll is always a troll...
